Another vector. This was taken from the episode "Trade Ya." I also made a time lapse video of this, which can be found at www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVwO0M…

Applejack used to be my favourite of the Mane 6, but I think I've said this before. They extinguished all her character flaws in Season 1. I've even heard the joke of "Applejack is a background pony." And since the end of season 2 it's becoming more and more evident she's only a supporting character at this point, like Spike. Spike is where he belongs, as a supporting character that doesn't have much wrong with him.  Applejack should have plenty wrong with her, and she doesn't beyond being the typical, I'd say cliche, but AJ's not cliche, "I'm the Stubborn one that refuses to ask for help." run-of-the-mill character.

Also, COME ON, that hat was BEGGING to be a running Indiana Jones always almost losing/grabbing hat at the last second. That would've been awesome.

So me being me, here's what I'd like to see from AJ... and it's never gonna happen, we've established this.

She's already had her primary character element, being stubborn and refusing to ask for help when she needs it, written about and fixed. So that leaves a few other potential possibilities.

For one, she doesn't follow the norm of the Middle-Kid in the family, which she is. Big Mac, older brother, Apple Bloom, younger sister. In fact now that I think about, Big Mac follows the "strong, silent type." the Middle kid in the family typically exerts, while AJ seems to be the "I must always achieve what is expect of me, cannot screw up." Mentality that the oldest, or in my case the only, child typically exerts. Now of course, this is just on average. I'm not saying they need to abide by that. Big Mac was injured in the first season. Give Applejack an injury and FORCE her to sit on the side-lines. See what happens when you put a bird that's meant to fly in a cage. They'll go crazy, or I suspect in AJ's case she'll try and Micromanage. That'd be interesting to explore.

Secondly how would she react if she suddenly got a gift that really helped her out. I mean let's say Flim and Flam come back with a new idea, an actual good idea: a machine, oh... I don't know, that can cut, harvest and refine grain at the same time... you know, A Combine. Just for argument's sake just to see if the Earth Pony way really is the right way of doing things. Now typically you would find that the young, Apple Bloom, are more open to accepting new ideas, where as the older, Granny Smith, are more adverse to change. So it's up to Big Mac and AJ to muck around with the thing and come to a conclusion about it on their own.

Lastly. Have Apple Bloom go through the same crisis AJ did. She thinks, or you know what screw it, Apple Bloom comes to the conclusion she doesn't want to do farm work for a living. How would that throw a wrench in the works, just to see AJ's reaction on the issue. And at the end of it, Apple Bloom figures out for sure she doesn't want to work the farm. I narrowed down my career path over the years by screwing around and trying stuff to see what stuck, I figured out what I wanted to by figuring out what I didn't want to do. In fact the above scenario is actually really familiar. I found out the hard way, I am a city kid through and through, and will always be a city kid, through and through. I want to sit in front of a computer and type and come up with ideas, program, design. There's other circumstances like... I'm injured, and will be injured for the rest of my life. I'm 20 years old and I've already got injuries that will haunt me and prevent me from doing things until I'm dead.
